Overview

Our client is a leading Fortune 500 Company, who are looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic Instrument Technician to join the team based at Billingham Manufacturing site.
 
The Maintenance Team are at the centre of their industry leading safety and reliability. The Maintenance Team work with their Engineering teams to ensure that their facilities remain best-in-class. Every day, they solve problems across our sites so that they can keep the plants performing exceptionally.

On successful appointment you will undertake routine maintenance and perform fault finding and repairs on all aspects of instrumentation. Perform the installation and commissioning of plant modifications and improvement projects both on-line and during turnarounds and events so that plant on-line availability is maintained, defects resolved, and routines are completed on-time.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all maintenance tasks are carried out in accordance with company and statutory, environmental, health and safety standards including compliance with PPE requirements, permits and isolation procedures, the use of Risk Assessments, Method Statements and pre job hazard checks for all tasks.

Maintenance Execution

  • The assembly, installation, removal and replacement, disassembly, test functionality and operability, maintenance and repair of instrumentation systems and their associated system components. Such systems can be of an electronic, electro-mechanical or pneumatic technology which may be used to indicate, record, and control a wide variety of equipment, plant and machinery across the Billingham, Portrack and North Tees sites.
  • Pre commissioning, trip testing and fault finding on instrumentation systems and the associated system components.
  • Raising, releasing, and completing Work Orders and updating databases as required.
  • Raising requests for materials for the routine execution of work.
  • Inspection and record keeping or updating as part of a preventive maintenance programme.
  • To assist in the upkeep of plant drawings and documentation by reporting errors to supervision.To participate in training in order to enhance skills to enable you to meet the companys competency requirements.
  • Reviewing and helping in the upkeep of Technical Data and manuals.
  • Be willing to work outside of normal hours on a planned or call-in basis to meet the needs of the business.

Turnarounds and Events

  • Carry out turnaround maintenance tasks safely, on schedule, and according to the work packs, company standards and good practice.
  • As required, and when selected, execute tasks associated with the shutdown Tech Team.

Essential RequirementsExperience

An integral aspect of the Instrumentation Technician is the ability to locate and identify faults in a timely manner to restore plant and equipment to acceptable conditions. The wide range of possible equipment and systems also require a good knowledge of, and the ability to effectively use, an equally wide range of test and measuring equipment. Instrumentation Technicians need a good understanding of engineering theory, the functions of components within systems and the effect on system operation of failure.

Skills and Competencies

  • Knowledge and understanding of legislative requirements in a COMAH top tier site and a detailed understanding of how the client complies with these through site procedures, rules, and expectations.
  • Detailed understanding of instrument control systems, including but not confined to pressure, temperature, level, flow, analysis equipment, machine instrumentation system i.e., Bentley Nevada and DCS systems with an ability to diagnose equipment fault and related system problems.
  • A sound understanding of process plant and computerised maintenance management systems.
  • Proficient user of MS office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.) and must have well developed written and oral communication skills.
