Are you a skilled Controls & Instrument Design Engineer with 1 to 3 years’ experience ready to make a real impact in a highly regulated and mission-critical environment?

 

We’re offering a unique opportunity for a Controls & Instrument Design Engineer who is early in their career to shape safety, reliability, and performance across an advanced energy site while growing your expertise in functional safety, instrumentation design, and control systems.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Provide Controls & Instrument Design support to the site. In conjunction with the O&M Team, assist with defining the maintenance requirements of C&I equipment on site, considering cost criticality and safety to ensure operational compliance and efficiencies are maintained.
  • Design and implement modifications under the Site Controlled Modification process.
  • Support the Site Controls & Instrument Engineer and Operational Team for project handovers, with a specific focus on control systems and acceptance criteria.
  • Assist the Site Controls & Instrumentation Engineers in preparing engineering requirements for C&I projects, and challenging contractor generated proposals (SIL levels, instrumentation philosophy).
  • Deliver operational based continuous improvement and obsolescence C&I improvements that minimise downtime / maximise plant availability and gas plant reliability. 
  • Participate in the planning process to ensure planned maintenance activities, shutdown maintenance activities and emergent maintenance activities are adequately planned. Ensure that the technical scope of work to be carried out is adequately defined. Where required, assist the planning group in defining requirements for ancillary services (e.g. scaffolding, lagging etc.).
  • Provide support for any operational issues on site, providing focus on the process control systems – investigating / troubleshooting issues.
  • Maintain compliance of all work within the plant area to relevant company, national and international standards, particularly with reference to safety standards, engineering standards and legislative requirements.
  • Carry out assigned tasks and duties in a safe manner, in accordance with instructions and in compliance with safety rules, procedures, regulations and codes of practice.
  • Report all events (personal injuries, equipment damage, environmental, security etc.) to your Line Manager and regularly raise proactive observations to help reduce the risk of an unsafe situation occurring.
  • Drive improvements in Process Safety across the site. Assist with investigations into incidents /accidents in accordance with UK procedure.

 

Key Skills

 

  • 1-3 years’ experience in C&I design (loop diagrams, P&IDs, alarm schedules, DCS/F&G systems)
  • Understanding of Functional Safety / IEC 61511
  • Support for maintenance, upgrades & troubleshooting
  • Involvement in SIL assessment, HAZOPs, and change control
  • Degree in Control & Instrumentation Engineering (or similar)
  • CompEx12 / TUV FS certifications (desirable)

 

Education

 

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant engineering subject, ideally control and instrumentation.
  • CompEx12 and TUV functional safety qualifications advantageous
