We are hiring an Instrumentation Operations Technician at our upper tier COMAH site at Bacton Gas Terminal – a critical site on the UK’s National Transmission System. This hands-on role covers installation, inspection, commissioning, repair, and maintenance of high-pressure systems that keep Britain’s energy flowing. You’ll work on complex challenges, ensure the highest safety standards, and help safeguard infrastructure that millions rely on every day. Your Role:
As an Instrument Operations Technician, you’ll play a pivotal role in maintaining, repairing, and upgrading the compressor stations and above-ground installations that are essential to the National
Transmission System. These high-pressure systems ensure gas flows smoothly across the UK’s pipeline network, supporting homes, businesses, and industries.
Key responsibilities include:
- Installing, commissioning, maintaining, and repairing safety, control, and measurement systems at our compressor stations and above ground installations.
- Acting as a site controller, issuing permits, and ensuring the safe operation of works.
- Conducting isolations and supporting construction and commissioning of new assets.
- Travelling across the south east region, covering different sites and receiving ongoing training to develop your expertise.
Standby Rota standby ranges between 1 week in 4 to 1 week in 6 depending on team size.
What we’re looking for:
Essential:
- Time served apprenticeship (or other recognised training scheme) in an instrumentation or a control systems discipline
- BTEC National Certificate (or equivalent City & Guilds, NVQ/SVQ Level 3) in an instrumentation or a control systems discipline
- Worked in industries including (but not limited to) FMCG, the broader utilities, military or aviation
- Full UK car driving license
Desirable:
- Possess an in date certificate in Compex EX01-04 Hazardous Equipment
- Appreciation of systems and equipment associated with other engineering disciplines within the oil and gas (or other similar process) industry
